YOU ARE IN WORKSHOP INFORMATION FOR ADULTS. PLEASE GO TO THE YOUTH AND TEEN PAGES FOR INFORMATION ON YOUNG PEOPLES WORKSHOPS

TO START AT THE BEGINNING . . .

INTRO TO ACTING. An 8-week course designed to awaken your imagination, build self confidence and your ability to create reality in front of an audience, increase concentration, learn relaxation techniques, and develop a basic understanding of the craft and what acting is. We start by teaching you how to "play" again, and how to think differently and become aware of every day things and how they affect you. No big emotional soul searching here, we leave that for much later.

We believe that acting should be fun (that is why they call them plays), and that you need to be encouraged along the way. That is why our members are successful in both amateur and professional pursuits.

Intro to Acting always meets one evening a week from 7-10pm. New workshops start every  month, so you are never far away from getting started yourself.

Remember, beginners get work all the time in our business, the trick is how to continue to get work. That is only achievable through training and skill.

THE NEXT STEP: Ongoing training and broadening your area of skills.

Move on to an ongoing workshop of study  Here you will deepen your self awareness, concentration and relaxation, learn how to rehearse, develop characters, analyze scripts, and prepare for auditions with cold reading techniques. Tuesday is more of an "independent study" situation. You are guided and coached, but it is up to you to prepare outside for what you bring to the workshop. We do allow some rehearsal or "work in progress" to be presented, however it is frowned upon as a regular occurrence. The same with cold reading, it is encouraged but not in lieu of developed material.

Again, go as fast or as slow as you need to, in order to develop solid skills.

Another nice thing about the workshop, after you complete the basic 8 weeks of Intro to Acting,  you have the opportunity to take time off - get into a play and come back to figure out where you need more work. The Ontoing group is more flexible (within reason of course).

8-weeks is a basic billing period for acting  workshops.   If you take a leave to do a play, you are expected to return the week after opening. You must be paid in full for the 8-week session you are in, and we hold your paid weeks for you until you return. We cannot hold your weeks for more than 8 weeks, so do return after each play to resume your work with us.

IMPROVISATION FOR ACTORS
Here you will learn how to make the body, brain, and voice all work at the same time, to really use your imagination and ability to create.

INTRODUCTION TO TV FILM AND COMMERCIALS
This basic workshop will give you all of the in's and out's of getting into the "business," along with basic auditioning skills for the camera. A 4-week basic course, where you will work on camera every week to see your progress and (unfortunately) your bloopers. You will be working with REAL Commercial and TV scripts and learn what is expected of you in the business.

INTENSIVE ON CAMERA WORKSHOPS
We offer two types of workshops for TV Film and Commercials ongoing work.

The TV & Film workshop is offered on an ongoing revolving 4 or 6-week basis (depending on interest) on Thursday evenings from 7-10, where you get into script analysis and auditioning techniques week after week, using the kids of scripts that are shot in Florida; and

Intensive Commercial Workshop once a month on a Sunday from noon 'til 6pm where you are bombarded with commercial scripts and first and second audition opportunities.

Take these workshops before you go out to get into the business, and whenever you need a boost to jump start your skills or career while you are out there struggling.

REMEMBER THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR ONGOING TRAINING
Even professionals continue to go to workshops. That is why the Actor's Studio was created. If it is good enough for them, it definitely should be good enough for you!

Workshop schedules are subject to change. Our instructors are all working actors themselves and we have to work within their professional schedules. Some workshops may be delayed due to lack of registration commitment, however your deposits are always safe at Venue, and refundable up to 72 hours prior to the confirmed starting date of the workshop. A complete list of member rules and regulations is available upon registration.

Most workshops include all materials, there may be some copy fees to offset the cost of the equipment. Video tapes of class work are available at the discretion of the instructor. All materials used in the workshops are the property of Venue Actors Studio.
