 Acting Workshops for Adults
Members begin to explore the world of acting with simple exercises and improvisations designed to build a strong foundation necessary for every actor - the basic concepts of American Method Acting (relaxation, concentration, improvisation, and the ability to create simple reality). Learning the terminology used on every stage and set, and the value of continuous study in the craft. Monologues and scene study round out the application of the Method. Students then advance to more in-depth work with the "Method," using sensory exercises to stimulate the imagination and make the actor's instrument more available to him/her. As the student progresses, scene work intensifies to understand scripts and develop characters from within the actor, giving him/her the opportunity to apply his/her emotional responses to a role. There is an emphasis on memorization and cold reading skills, preparing us for performance and auditioning.
For actors with previous training, experience, and a focus toward professional work, Venue offers a place for the working actor to sharpen his/her skills and stretch his/her instrument into the challenge of creating various roles. By developing a deeper understanding of the work, we help the actor apply the Method through character development, script analysis, and sharper self awareness through heightened relaxation, sense memory, and concentration techniques enabling him to think like an actor. Audition techniques and the Business of Show Business is included, along with development of material for Showcase.
Introduction to TV & Film
A comprehensive workshop for those wanting to break into the business. Covers everything from agents to resumes; networking, photos, and how to audition for commercials and television and film (there is a difference). An absolute must for every actor seeking to pursue a professional career in the Florida market or elsewhere. A pre-requisite for any intensive.
Commercials: Intensive
For those interested in honing their skills for TV commercials, and improving your presentation. Cold reading on-camera, lots of material all day for two days. You will leave this workshop renewed and inspired to nail those auditions time after time. Worth doing over and over when you need that special boost once in a while. Limited to 10 members.
Intensive Study for TV & Film
Serious students only! Learning how to prepare for and apply the Method to a TV or film script, we put you through the paces of successful audition techniques for TV and film. An absolute must for the actor who is pursuing a career. On-camera , lots of scripts over two days. Worth repeating when you need a boost. Limited to 10.
Voiceover Workshop
Designed to introduce you to the demands and requirements for breaking into the field of Voice Over Work (background voices for commercials, radio, animated characters, etc.). Learn about caring for your voice, changing tonality for appeal, producing your voice demo, marketing, and more. Meets one Sunday a month.
Voice Development Workshop
This workshop is great whether you want to sing or not! Learn how your voice works, how to warm up your voice for any work when you are going to be speaking for long periods of time, tone work and exercises to strengthen your voice, how to keep it relaxed and natural, proper use of your diaphragm for power, and much more. A really fun class that focuses on one of the most difficult areas for the actor.
Coaching and Consulting
Consultation for adults and/or parents seeking information and guidance on breaking into show-business; regular private coaching or preparation for an audition. By appointment only. Fees vary and are available upon request. Resume and Photo services are available.
